I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Odyssey (New York, NY) in May 2016

      Interview

Initial phone interview, briefed on company history and outlook. Followed up with two in-person interviews, one with two other Assistant Managing Editors and another with an Editorial Director. The in-person interviews evaluated my editorial experience, personal goals, and whether I would be a strong culture fit for the company. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and I was able to meet a few members of the staff who fit into the role in different ways, allowing me to understand that AMEs aren't cookie-cutter people.

What are some ways you would motivate an Editor to complete a task that was essential to the health of their community?

      Interview

It began with a phone interview that was more of a check to get a feel of who you are and brag about the company. There is then a cultural questionnaire where you answer a few questions about yourself before the interview. The first interview was with two people in the same position (AME), the first person I spoke to wasn't very responsive nor enthusiastic about talking to me, so I'm not really sure why he was there, but the second person was more insightful and actually seemed to want another AME on board. This interview was focused on your career aspirations and goals and how it aligns with The Odyssey. Then there is another interview with the Editorial Director, where they talk more about the specifics of the job, and how your skills align with the role. Besides the first person, the interviews all seemed to go well, but I guess I just wasn't what they were looking for.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years? Be very specific.

It starts with a phone interview where you're encouraged to ask as many questions as you'd like about the job/company. Then you answer a culture questionnaire. A hiring manager contacted me about a general information session interview and spent the entire time bragging about his own resume and accomplishments. The entire thing felt very cultish by the way he was describing the company and working for it. I stopped contact after that...
