The interview process was rushed. They were trying to backfill a position before the manager went out on maternity leave. Overall, everyone I spoke with was great. We got along well, I aced the interviews, and we were all excited to get me started working there. I was offered the job and I accepted. I awaited more information about my official start date. Then, less than a week after accepting the offer, the recruiter tells me that they need to rescind the offer because there was a massive layoff. The role I accepted and the entire team I was supposed to join had been suddenly laid off (people who had been with the company for 9+ years and told me how great the culture was and how much they enjoyed working there).
It's extremely frustrating, since I lost out on valuable job search time for a job that was never going to be there. Management would have known that the layoffs were coming, so they should not have allowed any hiring to be going on. This all took place over the span of about 2 weeks, so they would definitely have known. This is just very bad business practice.
