      Implementation Consultant Interview

      Jun 27, 2018

      Declined offer

The process took 1 week. I interviewed at OneTrust in May 2018

      Interview

Recruiter was very nice, but that's about it. I had 2 interviewers. One was a pseudo-lawyer early 20s (nice at first but pretentious and pedantic later) and looked like it was his first time interviewing someone. Asked ridiculous questions during the presentation where they expect you to be an expert on EU's GDPR. They give you this topic 72 hours before the interview. It's a huge waste of your time studying, reading, and creating the presentation while compiling all your research. The other interviewer was unprepared and didn't know what the topic of the presentation was. He got really cocky during the presentation, but don't let this intimidate you. All they know is GDPR. Stay firm with your answers and honest. Don't waste your time with this company, especially if you're a student or have a professional job with deadlines to meet and a personal life. I can't learn everything about GDPR overnight. That's the expectation despite what the recruiter tells you. It's also their way of seeing how you'll do under pressure of an unfamiliar topic. Like someone else said here, they try really hard to be Google-esque, but even Google doesn't waste your time this way. An interview is a two-way street. They did not impress me at all. Honestly, I'd hate to be working there, especially when the expectation is working until the evening/night and on weekends often (you have to come to the office on weekends). Nor how they conducted themselves during the interview. I decided not to join. Ask yourself do you really want to be working for a privacy consulting company and learning how to"implement" their proprietary, outsourced software and GDPR etc? These skills aren't versatile to other companies. You will develop soft skills interacting with clients, but no tech, programming, true problem solving skills etc that are crucial in about any industry. You'll be stuck in a niche industry. Do you to be working with these people on a daily basis? As I was touring their office, it looked like a sweatshop. Dozens of people cramped into these "open spaces". It was good practice for my real interviews with Silicon Valley companies.

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at OneTrust (London, England)

      Interview

Online video call meeting followed by face to face presentation with the hiring manger (team lead) of the role. Presentation of a chosen subject for 10 mins duration. The next stage was a video interview with the senior management discussing previous employment and suitability to the role. Was more relaxed and general chat more than interview.

      Interview

My initial interview was with the recruiter and it went really well. He was super keen for me to speak with the hiring manager right away so we organised a second stage interview then and there. My second interview went well, wasn't particularly difficult and we both had a great conversation. Alight, RED FLAG: this was a 4 stage interview process. This is just way too much, even by todays standards. Also WHY was one of the stages a full presentation about a topic of their choice? Stop “BrewDog”ing candidates, and getting them to do free work! The recruiter and manager the ghosted me after my second interview. I emailed the recruiter who said he would follow up and after 3 weeks, nothing! I had a feeling that when I spoke to the manager, he had already made up his mind on a candidate and was just going through the motions. The people seemed friendly but on the whole. Too many stages and bad show for ghosting!
