I recently interviewed with OpenBet for a Machine Learning Engineer position, and unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing.
The interview was conducted by the Head of AI, whose demeanor I found highly unprofessional. He demonstrated poor interpersonal skills and began the conversation by taking over questions that would typically be handled by HR. At one point, he even dismissed them by saying something along the lines of “let’s get these stupid questions over with,” which set an uncomfortable tone from the start.
Throughout the interview, his attitude remained condescending and antagonistic. He appeared more interested in mocking my background than in genuinely evaluating my qualifications. Despite my academic achievements and technical experience, he made sarcastic remarks such as “there’s no way you’d know all of this,” which felt unnecessarily hostile and dismissive.
This behavior is particularly concerning given that the AI department at OpenBet is still in its early stages. Culture and leadership are crucial during such formative periods, and based on my experience, I would advise other candidates to approach this opportunity with caution. There are certainly more respectful and professional environments to grow and contribute as an engineer.
