Odd and awkward. No structure. I applied on a Friday and immediately heard back from a hiring manager, who wanted me to come in for interview THAT AFTERNOON. I thought this was somewhat unprofessional for a job at this level, and responded that I could come in the following day or Wednesday. I did not hear back for 2 days. I followed up, and we set up an interview for Thursday. More red flags. I had a great first interview (in my opinion) and they indicated that Penhall is going thru massive changes due to a recent change in CEOs. A second set of interviews was set up with the next tier of directors. I was placed in a $10 chair in a dingy office, and was grilled by one manager and almost immediately realized this place was in a state of chaos. One manager discussed how HR is worthless and they always avoid HR getting involved in hiring because they don't know anything. I have an HR degree so this was a red flag from the start.
They don't know what they want, and there are drastically different view points of what this job is from one manager to the next. Massive disconnect between the three people I met with. One manager stated that this is a new position, another says it has been open for two years. Another red flag. I got three different answers when I asked about the training procedure since I don't have much experience in the concrete sawing industry (but who does?).
Overall, I wasted 7-8 hours of my time and they have not even sent a response. I noticed today that the position has re-opened, so I can only assume I am not getting an offer.
Heed the advice from this and many other Glassdoor jobs - stay away from this place. The only positive I gathered from several hours of talking was a good salary and that the Penhall name has a good reputation in the construction industry. There is a serious disconnect between the decision makers and what direction they want the company to head towards. One says they need to focus on 'service jobs', one says they are eliminating 'service jobs' (these are generally small jobs where customer needs one to five holes drilled for example).
