I actually applied for Automation testing role. I had a L1 interview for Automation testing and the interviewer decided I would need training for the tools they use. He was very supportive and asked me to have an interview for manual testing role and we can see how it goes. The interview was mainly on my previous work experience and decision making. I was offered a role for the location I did not apply. HR did not respond well after that.
