      Database Engineer Interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Pyramid in Nov 2020

      Interview

Recruiter reached out to me via LinkedIN. Original recruiter I had contact with was phenomenal. His boss ... quite the contrary. Below is a summary of my experience: -Initial Phone screen (recruiter, super friendly guy was absolutely fantastic) -Had a final round panel interview last week with the team. *All of that was pretty standard procedure, below is when things got a little interesting*: -Recruiter I was working with initially got suprisingly let go with little warning. His supervisor took over my recruitment/interview process. -Got an email with intent to hire, also received a verbal offer over the phone (but he said they couldnt offer close to what I am making now, but instead gave me a 20k range well below my current compensation). Since they were offering noticeably less than my asking...I was hesitant/balked and attempted to negotiate (their benefits were subpar, at least compared to what I've received in the past from past organizations). I also let them know I still owe training fees if i were to leave my current company. -Whenever I had a question (whether it be salary or even a minor question), the supervisor would always try to schedule a call and try to get me to accept a figure (well below my range) right away. most likely some sort of strong arming/sales technique in my opinion since most of those questions could be easily answered in a sentence or less in writing. -I emailed them asking when I will get a formal written offer. The guy kind of sidestepped the question and asked if the figures were okay for us to proceed. I said that it was. No response. - I followed up two(2) days following the verbal intent to hire. The new person (as mentioned previouly, I originally worked with a recruiter but this person let him go unexpectedly) said that there must have been some sort of miscommunication cause he was awaiting 'my decision' to see if we could proceed'. (I recall previously asking for solid figures before I made any sort of committment/decision). - I responded stating that I can't make a real decision until i actually have an offer letter with the exact figures but that I am still interested. ** 2 days go by I follow up stating that I had another offer from another organization and that they were awaiting my decision** - He sends me an email saying that the team recalibrated again and unfortunately they were going to pass at this time since I have another offer. (I guess he thought I was bluffing about my other offer but I was not, I left the other company hanging for almost a week). To be frank, my experience with this individual from the beginning really turned me off from joining the organization. The team that I met with along with the original recruiters were a pleasure to meet with. Having someone with an abrasive/aggressive personality like this at the forefront of your recruiting can turn potential candidates away. I was interested in joining the organization until my interactions with my individual. I was not bluffing and did have another offer on the table. His behavior and (lack of) professionalism really made the decision easy for me. DISCLAIMER: this is not taking away from Pyramid as an organization or from the recruiter(s) I worked with. Just this particular individual. Interactions like this will turn away prospective candidates from the organization. All-in-all was a very unique experience.
