Interview
The interview process for a food server is generally straightforward, focusing on your personality, experience, and ability to handle customer service situations. It typically involves a brief conversation with a manager or supervisor, lasting around 20-30 minutes. You'll be asked about your previous experience, availability, and how you handle common scenarios like dealing with difficult customers or working under pressure.
To prepare, dress professionally, even if the job doesn't require formal attire. Bring a copy of your resume and be ready to discuss your skills and how they relate to the job description. Highlight your ability to multitask, handle customer interactions, and work in a fast-paced environment. Be specific about your skills, avoiding generic terms like "detail-oriented".
The interviewer will assess your communication skills and how well you can handle pressure. They'll also be interested in your understanding of customer service and your ability to work as part of a team. Be prepared to answer questions about your availability and any previous experience in the food service industry. The goal is to demonstrate your enthusiasm, professionalism, and suitability for the role.

Interview
The interview process for a food server is usually fast-paced, highly conversational, and focused heavily on your personality, reliability, and customer service skills. Because servers are the face of the restaurant, managers use the interview to see how you interact with people and handle stress.
Here is a breakdown of what the typical process looks like from start to finish.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
In a food server interview, there is almost always one specific question that every manager asks because it reveals exactly how you handle the reality of the job.
That question is: "Tell me about a time you had to deal with a difficult customer, and how did you handle it?"
Managers ask this because anyone can be polite when things are going smoothly. They want to see what happens when things go wrong—because in a restaurant, a kitchen delay or a mixed-up order will happen eventually.
When they ask this, they are looking for a specific three-step answer:
You listened calmly: You didn't argue with the guest or take their frustration personally. You solved the problem quickly: You apologized sincerely and involved a manager or the kitchen to fix the food right away. The guest left happy: You turned a bad experience into a positive one.
Even if you haven't worked as a server before, you can answer this using any past experience where you had to help an angry or frustrated person with a smile!
