      Gallery Design Assistant Interview

      Aug 22, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Scottsdale, AZ
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at RH (Scottsdale, AZ) in Jul 2018

      Interview

Dropped off resume/cover letter in-person. Was immediately scheduled an interview for the following week (Monday). Interview was one-on-one with one of the leaders. Everything seemed to go really well. It was a conversational interview, and I felt great. The interviewer explained the hiring process to me and told me that the next interview would be more of a panel interview with interior designers present, and that I would be presenting a design project as part of the interview. She LITERALLY GAVE ME A DESIGN PROJECT. I was told to design a dining room, and I could use their products but that I wasn't limited to just their products. She didn't mention a budget, but told me it is helpful if I create a client profile to reference during the design process. I was told the next interview would most likely be the following Tuesday, but that she would call Thursday to confirm. On my way out, she gave me a bag and encouraged me to grab source books to use. She also gave me her business card and told me that they value feedback and that if I had any questions or needed direction while working on the project, to give her a call/email. I went home feeling really confident. I decided to use real life people as clients and created a consultation form. After meeting with my clients, I created a client profile and also created a floor-plan in AutoCAD. I went through all the source books, cutting out products, as well as browsing through their entire website saving product images and clipping the products from the backgrounds. In 48 hours, I had put so much work into this project already. Thursday came and I decided to email her and follow-up. I thanked her for the opportunity, expressed my excitement to present my design, let her know where I was at, and asked a few questions. I expected an email response or call, since she said she would call to confirm my next interview date/time. I got nothing. Friday came and went. Nothing. Saturday afternoon I called and she was on lunch...they took my name/number and said they'd let her know. NOTHING. Sunday came and went, nothing. Monday afternoon I called again...she was in a meeting. They took my name/number and still, NOTHING. It has been 2 weeks now, and I still haven't received any kind of communication. Obviously, I am not working on the project anymore. I am just so appalled by the pure unprofessionalism exhibited from RH. A simple email/phone call explained that they decided to go with a more qualified candidate, or anything that would let me know what is going on. I wasted a whole week working on a design project and preparing for an interview that never happened. I could have been seeking other opportunities. Worst experience of my career life.
