      Entry Level Software Developer Interview

      Jun 13, 2019
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Reston, VA
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Revature (Reston, VA) in Jun 2019

      Interview

The process seemed simple enough. I was contacted a day after my application was sent in for a pre-screening call. They just asked if I had graduated and a few simple questions about about myself. In that same call we scheduled my technical interview. They said that there was one technical interview for 10-15 minutes and then we would be sent to training if we passed. This was weird to me because it seemed like too quick of a process. My phone screening was on Friday, we scheduled the Technical interview for the next Wednesday at 11:30AM. I logged in early as instructed to test my equipment. I then waited until 11:50 for my interviewer before giving up and contacting my recruiter for a few rounds of phone tag before rescheduling my interview for the next day. My interview the next day was on time but not at all about the content I received in my preparation packet. My recruiter called me almost immediately after the interview to make sure that it went well. I voiced my concerns regarding the off topic questions and she then made me aware that my interview had been for the 'Business Analyst' position. I told her that this was not correct, and not what we had discussed before. After a few moments of confusion I was told I would be contacted in 10-15 minutes. When I was contacted again I tried to cut ties with this process, but my recruiter with Revature really pushed for me to take the final interview. I took it the next day and it went exactly as I had expected my first interview to have gone. After the final interview it took about an hour to get my results call. I answered the call and was told that they were pleased to inform me that I passed the interview and have been accepted for the 'Business Analyst' position. This was thrilling as I had just gone through this whole thing the day before. Overall I interacted with very kind people, but the company itself is wildly disorganized. The whole process made me wary about how legit this position was going to be. If you do choose to interview for the software developer position, the interview will heavily focus on OOP principles. They give you the four pillars in their study guide. There were a couple of very basic questions about CSS and JS. The questions basically just asked what they were and what they are used for. Scroll around on this section and you will find most of the questions they plan on asking.

      Question 1

Nothing in the Software developer interview was a surprise. It was exactly as expected. In the 'Business Analyst interview' I was asked how to get a Fox, a Chicken, and a sack of Corn across a river. Only one can be taken at a time.

      Interview

First an aptitude test which was majorly mcqs, quite easy for people with a computer science background but they also allow candidates with non cs to join so it might be the reason. Then you can take part with their unpaid training which they teach in depth over basics upto creating API for backend using Spring and Java then you get enrolled for their paid program waitlist where they contact you if they have a client that fits with you.
