      Assay Development Scientist Interview

      Jul 6, 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Royston, East of England, England
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Sartorius (Royston, East of England, England) in Jul 2018

      Interview

Applied through an online jobs website. My application went to a recruiter who followed up my application by asking for a more tailored CV and a comprehensive cover letter (well above average recruiter, my contact was very nice). Within a week of me sending my CV and cover letter I was invited for an interview. I had three separate 30 minute interviews, the first was with someone from HR with generic interview questions (I think they were looking for answers in the STAR format, though they didn't specifically say, I struggle with answering in that interview style). The second interview was with the development scientist team lead; this interview was a technical interview, with lots of questions on my scientific/lab experience. They bought one of their latest products and asked me to identify its technical components and use (do your product and company research). The third interview was with two experienced team members who gave me a tour of the building identifying the products, the teams and facilities. They then asked some technical and experienced based questions after the tour. Overall it was a brilliant experience - everyone was friendly and welcoming which put me at ease quickly. Also, I feel I was given a good opportunity to discuss my skills and how I'd be suitable for the role. Particularly in the second and third interview some of the questions became more of an open discussion which helps the interview feel more natural and allowed me to gauge whether I was barking up the wrong tree with an answer. I was contacted by the recruiter to say I had been successful later that day.
