      Trade Marketing Manager Interview

      Jan 11, 2022
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Chicago, IL
      No offer
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Sazerac in Mar 2020

      Interview

Interviews: -HR call to go over applicants background and the job overview. -Call with a division Sales Manager to talk about applicants background and applicable examples from prior experience to this job. -Interview with hiring Marketing Manager. This consisted of a case study to be presented on the launch of a retail niche food item launch. I found this to be irrelevant since Sazerac is a beverage only company. I could see it being used to gauge thought and planning process but they should have sued a relevant fake beverage product for a more realistic interview. Any person with a food CPG background would have the upper hand in this even though, again, this is an interview for a beverage company.

Create a case study to launch a niche food product at retail.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Sazerac (Chicago, IL) in Dec 2021

      Interview

They requested a case study from a trade marketer's perspective on a random CPG company, and asked for a copy ahead of time. Don't do it! They could easily steal your format for internal use. When asked for feedback after the presentation in front of the hiring manager, she criticized elements of the presentation that wouldn't be handled by a traditional marketer but by a category manager instead. Red flags!! This indicated to me that you would be doing dual roles in your job. Big waste of time and ultimately no offer. Who asks for a case study, when a resume clearly shows you're qualified for the role. Ask for program examples instead. And if that's not what you're looking for, then revamp your job description! Overall, I could tell it was going to be a chaotic environment when recruiter mentioned they were hiring 900 sales reps! What a headache for a trade marketer. Way too much work with plenty of hours to prepare a case study, all for them not to offer any feedback. Terrible experience!
