I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Shell (Singapore) in Jan 2020
Interview
The interview is a 3 stage process. First, a meet and greet with direct bosses, second a meet and greet with key stakeholders and lastly a structured interview and test. In the structured interview, an independent assessor is present and hypothetical questions are given. The candidate is expected to answer in a STAR format.
I have interviewed with many brand name companies internationally and by far Shell has the best recruitment process I have ever experienced . Michelle Z and her HR team in Singapore always strive to answer any questions, keep the candidate informed and are always pleasant even when faced with technical /time pressures. Michelle even called to explain what to expect at the structured interviews and was prompt to provide names and titles of the interviewers ahead of time. Our interviews were mostly via VC due to Covid but everything was arranged professionally. Ideally, I like to visit offices and meet people in person to understand the work and people culture but the culture of Shell , really spoke for itself through its people via VC or HR team attending to every little detail in preparation of the interview. Michelle kept in close contact and I never had to follow up with her, her professionalism and dedication was displayed throughout the entire process.
For future candidates, more than just technical skills, Shell (unlike other companies) are also interviewing for culture. Shell sets a high bar on technical skills during its written test and structured interview but they also place high value on the people and its culture. They invest and care for their employees and look for an all rounded candidate.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Think of a tIme when you went over and above your work scope to help the business
The process was very fast and included only two interviews - with HR and the manager.
Mostly behavioral questions were asked at the main interview. Though, it was not very clear what the job will look like.
