I applied online. I interviewed at ShopBack (Ho Chi Minh City) in Jan 2026
Interview
4 rounds. First one was CV screening, technically not strict. Even with no data project it was possible to still pass the CV screening. Then they sent a Hackerrank test and must be done in 3 hours. This test was about working with AI (mandatory to use AI) for 3 hours to build a "home-made" data platform with just python and yamls. The test was also easy to pass. The third round was a call with HR or an AI agent to gather more information about availability and what you've done for side projects. This round was impossible to fail. The final round was the hardest: 1 technical interview with a Hackerrank problem for 1 hour and 1 culture fit interview for 30 minutes. The technical round was there to test you actually know how to program, I got TLE and not able to solve the last 3 test cases, but still passed. To be honest, the technical round seems easier than other big companies because they don't expect you to find the optimal solution. However, the culture fit round is the one people often fail. They look for people willing to commit and have decent skill for solving problems about workplace and coworkers.

Other Data Engineer Intern Interview Reviews for ShopBack
Some questions were about my previous data engineering projects, how I designed pipelines, how I monitored data delays or consumer lag, and how I used AI tools during the assessment. There were also questions about motivation, salary expectation, and how I would approach practical data engineering problems.
