      Software Engineer Interview

      Dec 13, 2014
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Conshohocken, PA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at ShopRunner (Conshohocken, PA) in Oct 2014

      Interview

The interview process was pretty straightforward, i was referred to by a friend, so I was contacted by the recruiter who was pretty proactive, in couple of days i was scheduled for a telephonic interview with the Sr. Director of Engineering. The interview was simple and went well, the next day I got an email from the recruiter about an onsite interview. I went for an onsite interview which was like 3 hours long, initially 2 people from the QA team interviewed me, which was just getting to know each other and what have you worked on and so on. The next interview was pretty technical with 2 programmers, one guy who was indian was very smart and a java guru, he tricked me a lot into fundamentals and intricacies of the language. Few things he asked me were really new to me and I had fund at the end of the interview. Next I interviewed with another director and this time he asked me to implement an algorithm, given a number print out its digits without using substring method. Next day, I get a call from the recruiter for another round of interview with the CTO of the company at their office in Conshohocken, PA. I went for the interview, the CTO was really very nice guy, he was very technical though. He asked me a lot about database, queries, performance etc. He also presented me with one of his own problems that he had faced during his college days and asked me to come up with a solution. I wasn't able to come up with a solution that he was impressed with, though i answered most of the other questions he asked. After the interview, next day I contacted the recruiter for an update, and here comes the part I didnt like about the company. He didnt respond to my emails for an entire week. Suddenly, he responds back and says he would like to talk to me. So we schedule a time and he tells me that I am on the hook, i am not rejected but i am not selected as well. He said, one of the directors who would make the decision is on vacation so I need to wait for a month before they get back to me. I asked him politely to atleast let me know their decision once the director is back. He said he would, to this day its been more than 2 months, i haven't heard back from him.
