      Manager Interview

      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Side (San Francisco, CA) in Apr 2021

      Interview

The interview process with Side took about 11 weeks. The interview consisted of four separate scheduled events: Recruiter Phone Screening Hiring Manager Interview Team Interview COO Interview The team interviews were mostly pleasant and consisted mainly of behavioral interview style questions. There were a few red flags while chatting with team members, mainly around the current company culture. Much of the same sentiment can be found on the "reviews" tab here on Glassdoor. On team interview day, I did have one interviewer no-show and require a quick call to remind them of the meeting. Also, the hiring manager had to step away for about 5 minutes in the middle of their interview. Communication - At the start, the Side recruiting team was super responsive. After completion of interviews, communication fell off. When recruiting staff did respond to emails or reach out, they often provided a final decision timeframe that was typically "next week". Missed timeframes went out for about 6 weeks of the process. The original recruiter I worked with left Side for another company and my candidacy was passed off. The process ended with a live phone call letting me know they went with another candidate, which was nice in comparison to typical boiler-plate denial emails. Overall, the lack of communication and frequently missed timing expectations left a bad taste in my mouth and would have swayed my decision had I been offered a role. I recommend not setting expectations if you don't plan on meeting them, or at a minimum try not to have that happen with every interaction. Side should definitely spend some time time ironing out the candidate experience and remember that candidate's time is just as important than their own.
