      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at SmartBug Media in Sep 2018

      Interview

Was contacted by a recruiter to schedule a time for an interview a few days after I applied online. I booked a time about a week and a half out since her schedule was full. The interview was friendly and laid back. We discussed my background and Hubspot experience. After hearing the requirements for the role I felt confident I was a good fit for the position. The recruiter passed my information on to the hiring manager for review and I was told I would hear back within a week. Unfortunately, I didn't make the next round and was sent a polite e-mail 3 weeks later stating they were not moving forward with my application. Slightly disappointed in the outcome, but I look forward to an opportunity in the future to apply to SmartBug again! The company appears to have a great team accomplishing incredible work!

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at SmartBug Media (Louisville, KY) in Mar 2018

      Interview

I applied via the website. Was sent a a screening questionnaire with basic questions around my experience with HubSpot and a few other questions including starting salary information to ensure we were all on the same page. After submitting the questionnaire I was invited to do a phone interview. Again we discussed my HubSpot experience and a bit about the company and hiring process. At the end of the call I was told that another person from the team (a team lead) would be in touch with me to schedule another interview and that I would also be sent a scenario that I should be prepared to discuss during that call. All positive. Second interview was with a team lead. We had a great conversation and discussed the scenario I was sent in an earlier email. The call again ended in another interview in which I was told that they (the next interviewer) would be in contact with me. This is where things went from great to horrible, when in the span of 1-hr, I went from scheduling a third interview with another team lead to receiving an email from the same team lead I was scheduling my interview with that they had made a hiring decision and would keep my resume on file. Say what?!?! I immediately emailed back copying the other two people I interviewed with to express my shock, especially in the terms of how it was handled. In response I did receive a call back from the team lead from my second interview who further explained the context of what happened. While I do appreciate that, I feel that things could have been handled a lot better and the whole situation has left a bitter taste in my mouth.

Hi, Thanks for posting your feedback. We are in the process of hiring a lot of people right now, and one of the hiring team was delayed in providing feedback on a candidate (which we ultimately hired) that was a bit further along in the process. As a result, our internal recruiter did not yet know of the decision to hire them and was being proactive in scheduling the interview with you. We felt the best thing to do was to alert you of the situation and hold off on further interviews. I do believe that you were called by one of the folks that interviewed you to explain the mixup and to let you know that we added you to a list of people that were already pretty far in the process. This enables you and us to hit the ground running when the next position opens up. Hopefully, we'll get a chance to continue our discussion then. Thanks again for sharing your feedback so we can work on our hiring processes. -RM

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at SmartBug Media (Austin, TX) in Mar 2018

      Interview

I was first emailed to answer some quick questions to make sure that I was qualified for the job, then asked to set up a phone interview with a recruiter. The recruiter was busy that I had to schedule 2 weeks out. The phone interview lasted about 20 minutes.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I am sorry that you don't feel you had a positive experience. Our hiring process is designed to be respectful of your time and to ensure we find our ideal candidate. How it works: We send an initial screening email to learn a little bit more about a candidate that looks good on paper. From there, we have a screening call with our in-house recruiter to get more detail about your experience and approach to marketing. If there isn't a strong enough fit, we discontinue the process to be respectful of your time. I agree with you that two weeks is a long time. We had a lot of applications in March as we made a few hires. We are working to shorten that.
