      Application

I applied in-person. I interviewed at Tanium (Fremont, CA) in May 2021

      Interview

I interviewed at Tanium after a recruiter reached out to me via Linked In. For me, the interview process at Tanium was the following: 1) Initial phone screening with the recruiter. The recruiter asked general HR questions and a couple of Linux questions such as "how do you view a running process in Linux" and "how do you change ownership and permissions of a Linux file." 2) After the initial phone screening, if the recruiter wants to move you forward, the recruiter will send you a link to an online quiz that consists of around 30 questions--each question has to be answered in 30 seconds or less. Each question consists of an image, and you have 30 seconds to write what each image is. Each image is something you would see in a Linux or Windows system. For me, I remember seeing images of the following things: - OSI Model, Inspect Element on Chrome, port 22, port 20/21, Symetric/asymetric encryption, htop (linux command), top (linux command), tasklist, (windows command), ps (linux command), Organizational Unit(GPO policy), ipconfig (powershell command), unsuccessful ping (Linux), Roles and Features(windows server manager), Registry editor (windows server), Services (windows), ssh key file( Linux), openssl (linux command), XML connection string file (windows), /etc/ (linux filesystem), /proc (linux flesystem), http/https. That is all i can remember, but it was only 30 questions or so. So basically the quiz is images of the above things, and you to write everything above in a text box for each question. Overall, you will have no problem with the quiz if you are familiar with Linux and Windows systems, but it definitely requires some experience as its almost impossible to cheat this quiz. Either you know systems or you dont, but hopefully the above answers to the quiz help some. At the end, I dont believe they expect everyone to know everything, so just do your best. 3)Interview with a direct manager/VP. He asked general high over-view infrastructure questions and a couple of general Linux kernel questions. 3) 90 minute Technical panel with 3 ATAMs: The technical panel goes over your inital 30 question quiz, and they try to ask all sorts of random technical questions. They just want to pick your brain. Like the quiz, i dont think you are supposed to generally get all the questions right, just say that you dont know if you dont know something. 4) After the technial panel, you get access to Tanium, and you are asked to build a couple of sensors "scripts" with Tanium. Tanium is pretty easy to use. A sensor can be anything from "Get all running jobs from all Linux hosts" or "Get all installed programs from Windows servers." 5) 30 minute interview with another VP. For me, this person didn’t even turn on his cam. 6) 30 minute interview with another higher up. Didn’t make it this far. Overall, the interview process for the ATAM role was enjoyable, nothing too exhausting if you are good with Linux and Windows systems, but at the end of the day, like most jobs, all of their interviews are "likeability tests,” so your skills don't necessarily matter. If they like who you are, you are in, so put up a big smile and just try to be likeable.

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Tanium (Emeryville, CA)

      Interview

Lengthy and difficult but very fun. I particularly enjoyed the hypothetical troubleshooting scenarios and the 3-person tech panel. White it was tough, it was one of the most enjoyable and interesting interview processes I've been through in my career.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

A slew of probing technical questions centered around experiences and proficiencies which I'd listed on my resume.

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 months. I interviewed at Tanium

      Interview

Around 6-7 interviews with different people (HR, Tech, Sales, Mgmt,) Very good experience overall, nice people, interesting discussions. Advise: prepare as much as you can the tech panel interview (most important one).

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Tanium

      Interview

Don’t waste your time. They will push you along the interview process which is 9 rounds and even if you are doing well, will reject you for no apparent reason. During the interview process nobody is there to guide you and if you try to contact the recruiter they will ghost you. They will not offer you feedback after pouring close to 60 hours of time, and the management is condescending. For some reason the interviews felt like they were a witch-hunt, quizzing you till you fail.
