I applied through college or university. I interviewed at Tata Steel in Oct 2021
Interview
It was an On campus internship so the branch PC informed us about this opportunity, after that there was an presentation from the TSLPL following that CV shortlisting and an OT was organized and this was the mass elimination round and OT question were of moderate to easy level you just need manage your time well during OT always you will find some questions in OT which you know that will take a lot of time so I generally skip those questions because ultimate goal should be to score as much as possible neither showcase your talent by solving the toughest question in OT. The selected candidates from OT were invited for an interview was a mixture of both technical and HR.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
In the technical part they asked me about my favourite subject my answer was Iron making and Physical Metallurgy so they mostly questioned from those parts and then they asked me about different mechanical testing that are conducted on a sample to ensure its quality after that some basic questions on Thermodynamics.
In the HR part they mostly asked questions from what I have mentioned in my CV and some common HR questions like my short term and long term goal, why industry why not research?
The interview mainly focused on basic technical and HR questions, nothing too difficult. On the technical side, they asked me fundamental concepts from heat transfer, thermodynamics, and simple gear mechanisms—mostly conceptual stuff rather than heavy numericals. It was more about checking clarity of basics than testing advanced problem-solving. Overall, the technical round felt quite straightforward.
The HR part was also super easy. They asked general questions about my background, projects, how I handle teamwork, and why I’m interested in the role. The vibe was friendly and conversational, and the questions were mostly to understand my personality and how I fit in.

I applied through college or university. I interviewed at Tata Steel (Vāranāsi) in Oct 2025
Interview
I am from Mechanical engineering background. The overall interview was good. Good technical questions were asked in the interview. Questions were mainly from Machine Design, Engineering Materials, Gears, etc. Some HR questions were also asked in the interview like my strengths and weaknesses. Why Tata Steel?etc. It lasted for about 45 mins.
I applied through college or university. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Tata Steel (Jamshedpur) in Aug 2024
Interview
They started by asking questions from my vocational training which I had done during summer break of my 2nd year of college, which I had done on maintenance of wagons. They asked basic questions such as no. of wagons in a train, weight of wagon, speed etc. They asked to draw profile of tyre, asked types of wear, how train turns without differential etc. Then asked for favourite subject, I said fluid mechanics. Asked basic questions regarding practical applications of continuity equation. Then asked some fluid machinery questions. After that HR asked what qualities do you possess? Asked meaning of leadership. Leadership = Leader+ship, how these individual words come together to give it meaning?
