I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at US Army in Jan 2008
Interview
Go in to recruiting office to speak with recruiter. Recruiter discusses possible career fields, or you request one that you have in mind. Take the ASVAB (army's IQ test) and a drug test. Depending on your job you may be required to pass a detailed background investigation to obtain security clearance, which may take several months. Investigation doesn't start until you are at basic training or advanced individual training.
