      E6 - Navy - Petty Officer, 1st Class Interview

      Sep 19, 2012
      Anonymous employee
      Kansas City, MO
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at US Navy (Kansas City, MO)

      Interview

The process is fairly simple. Go into a military recruiting office and go through an initial interview to see if you meet the minimum requirements and take a practice ASVAB test to ensure you will pass the exam. If you are within standards you will begin paperwork (there is a lot of it) and need to provide documentation (birth certificate, ssn, diploma/transcripts), take a preliminary drug test (must be clean) and set up a date to go to MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station) to take the ASVAB, get your medical exam completed, get fingerprinted and do a security screening. After all of this (as long as you are qualified) you sit down with a person who sets you up with your military job (you go to school for it after you complete basic training) and a date to go to basic training. The MEPS process is all day, sometimes even including the night before depending upon where you live compared to where the MEPS is. Transportation to and from MEPS is provided, along with meals while you are there and if needed a hotel room is provided for the previous night.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

As long as you have a clean police record and have not used drugs nothing is really difficult or unexpected (you should disclose any police involvement, drug use, medical issues, etc to your recruiter upon the initial interview). The people at MEPS will ask the same questions over and over, often with different phrasing to try and catch people who aren't telling the truth.

ASVAB, you start as a Seaman Recruit, then move towards your promotion. The promotions usually happen in time. Then once you reach E3 or Seaman, wait 6 months to take the 3rd Class exam. You usually take exams 2x a year. Studying is required and there is a minimum percentile required to pass. The quotas change every exam date.
