I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Verkada (San Mateo, CA) in Jun 2020
Interview
The negative reviews here are true. I experienced the exact same treatment as the other reviews.
Initial phone screen with the recruiter went well and we talked through general questions and my past experiences. I was told the next step would be to set up a call with the hiring manager.
Here is where things went south. The hiring manager was completely disengaged/disinterested from the start. Showed absolutely zero interest in my past experience and seemed to question my every move. It was obvious she did not want to be on the call or had some sort of bias already going in.
After a few minutes, she asked if I had any questions and proceeded to respond with short, 1-2 word answers. She came off as belligerent and again seemed in disbelief that I would ask such questions (about territories and the sales process). Again, the interviewer seemed annoyed to be on the call from the start.
Sensing this, I asked if she had any hesitations and she explicitly said no and that she would be moving me forward. This did not happen as I got a generic email the next day saying they had declined to proceed in the process. This was a blatant lie and again gives an indication of the type of people they hire, retain, and promote.
Keep in mind - a lot of their middle management is very junior and inexperienced. They've been there for barely a year and have been promoted to management positions. Anyone they feel is more experienced/capable is going to be perceived as a threat to them. This is not the type of organization one should want to work for, especially as they are in growth mode.
I would highly recommend against interviewing here.
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Verkada (London, England) in Nov 2025
Interview
Very efficient and rapid interview process.
Step 1 - Screening call with HR
Step 2 - Call with Sales Manager
Step 3 - Call with Sales Operations to run through previous performance metrics
Step 4 (final) - In person interview at their office. Consists of a culture fit meeting and a mock discovery call with a prospect
Although I didn't get the offer, Jasmin from the HR team was very efficient and helpful throughout the whole process. She gave a very strong first impression of Verkada from the go.
The initial recruiter did a great job at selling the interview process and awesomeness of the people I would be speaking with. ...They all seemed to be busy with their minds up prior to the meeting. I understand it is a competitive position but it felt like an audition where the director already made up his mind
basic interview questions - had to drive down to do an interview with multiple people, it essentially took a day, just to not get the job. Felt like we could have done it remote.
