As with most companies nowadays that make you fill in a lot of online forms. Couple days later I received an interview. It was relaxed, not really the traditional questions more about you, what do you enjoy, previous experience, etc. Quite friendly overall
I applied online. I interviewed at Waitrose (Sheffield, England) in Mar 2026
Interview
Sheffield Store- Had a 1 to 1 interview with manager and was around half an hour. Recruitment refuse to provide exact interview questions which would have been classed reasonable adjustment despite making them aware of my disbility. They insead directed me to potential questions that they publish on their website publicly available. There is over 20 potential questions listed on this chart online, which I didn't find all that helpful. Despite this I managed to make it through the interview on the day. I was then invited to come back a few days later for a driving assessment which went well and I had passed. Despite taking out much of my time making 2 visits to the store and even taking a online assessment in order to get the interview, I was not offered the role. I was told over the phone by a manager that they couldn't offer me the advertised hours and instead gave the role to candidates who only needed lesser hours. I found this reasoning for not offereing me the role extremely unprofessional, as if they couldn't provide those advertised hours then why advertise those hours in the first place? I emailed recruitment about this and they insisted it was due to the other candidates having more experience than me but no mention of this from the store manager I spoke to. I noticed as well that the drivers and management in the driver delivery department were all very young. Averaging around 18-25 year olds. I'm much older than this so i found it incredibly hard to believe that all the candidates had more "experience" I definitely feel that discrimination went on here in this decision not to hire me. Less about my experience and more about my protective characteristics. I diagnosed austic and adhd which I did declare during recruitment. This company is not inclusive like they advertise so be cautious declaring if you have a disbility. They'll more than likely not hire you because of it and then gaslight you saying younger applicants somehow have more experience haha jokers! Dodged a bullet for sure, thank you for exposing yourselves Waitrose.
