There is a screening process through HR based on resume' match to qualifications. If you pass that, your materials will be screened by a hiring committee and a few names (usually less than 5) will be selected for interviews. Usually there will be a phone interview first and three or less will be invited for on-site interview. Often, the hiring supervisor is not on the committee.
The on-site interview generally consists of a round-robin set of questions asked in turn by each member of the committee. The same questions are asked of each candidate in the same order and so they are fairly generic questions.
Typically, you will also be asked to write or type database queries to show your skills.
The hiring process can be quite long (months) and candidates often become discouraged and drop out.
