    Facilities Engineer Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Houston, TX
    No Offer
    Positive Experience
    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Wood Group (Houston, TX) in March 2017.

    Interview

I spoke with a recruiter at our campus career fair. They contacted me a few weeks later, and I had a 30 minute on-campus interview. It was an extremely casual interview, and he only asked me 2-3 questions. I then had an on-site interview. I had 3-4 30 minute interviews with different team members. They never asked me any "interview"-style questions. Instead it was more like a meet and greet. We talked about the position, company, industry, and personal interests. We then had lunch with the interviewers and the other interviewees. Shortly after the interview, I had a scheduled phone call with HR to discuss salary and other logistics. I didn't hear back for a few weeks. I asked for an update, and they eventually let me know I didn't get an offer.

Typical one on one interview set up. Very easy, relaxed and informal. The person I interviewed with was fairly high ranking and our time was short. Was called back a few days later and given an offer letter. Meeting with others came after job was accepted.

    Senior Internal Auditor Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Houston, TX

    Negative Experience
    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied through other source. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at Wood Group (Houston, TX) in September 2013.

    Interview

I applied through other source and the process took 5 weeks - interviewed at Wood Group in September 2013.

Interview Details – Position applied for was an internal auditor position based in Houston, Texas. The primary offices for internal audit are in Aberdeen.

Contacted through LinkedIn by Aberdeen based HR recruiters. Had an initial interview phone interview with HR lasting about 1 hour. Next i was scheduled for an interview with a peer. This interview lasted about 1 hour and consisted primarily of a review of my resume. Mostly softball questions and a discussion of the company.

The next interview took place several weeks later when the department head came to Houston. I was scheduled for a 1 hour interview at 11:15. Due to the odd timing of this interview I was convinced that the interview would be over lunch and would be a long process. So, I took the entire day off for it. As it turned out, the interview only lasted about 1 hour and during the first 15 or 20 minutes the Internal Audit department head spent most of his time probing me about how the audit department at my current company is organized and functions. This was an immediate red flag for me as the questions were about processes within an audit function for which I would not be responsible. He was basically using the interview process to determine how my current company's audit department functioned. It was quite obvious that this individual had already decided that he was not going to hire me before the interview ever began. He also inferred that I had lied on my resume and he said that he had not yet decided how the department would be organized in Houston and he was going to let the employees fight it out and see who was standing when the dust settled. What the hell ?????!!!!!

The remainder of the interview was primarily filled with softball questions and a discussion of Wood Group. At about the 1 hour mark, there was a knock on the door and it was one of my would be peers (obviously pre-arranged). He poked his head in and asked if we were about to wrap things up. I politely said that I didn't want to detain them if they had pressing matters, to which the department head responded "you can have five more minutes". I wrapped things up and got out of there.

They told me that I would hear back from them (phone call) the following week regarding another round of interviews with Wood Group and Mustang financial higher ups. Standard practice to have 3 face to face interviews they said. Of course I never heard back. About 4 weeks after the interview I get this email response:

    Hi,

The status of your job application for XXXXXXXXX has been updated to Unsuccessful .

    Many Thanks,

    Wood Group Recruitment Team

After 1 phone interview and 2 face to face interviews, I get an automated response telling me that my status is 'Unsuccessful'.

    Very Cold. Very Unprofessional.

Glad I didn't get the job.

This interview consisted of 5 parts (9 am to 4 pm).

The last question consisted of a situation in which I had to recommend a design for a certain product. 45 minutes were given to solve the 3 engineering questions and think on the last situation question. I had to give present my ideas to a panel of 4-5 people on the last question.

    3. The third part was an informal discussion with two people about the company profile, working culture, etc. which extended over lunch.

    5. The fifth part included presentation given by me on my PhD work.

    Civil Project Engineer Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Melbourne (Australia)
    No Offer
    Negative Experience
    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Wood Group (Melbourne (Australia)) in July 2017.

    Interview

Had the interview with Wood Group PSN at Melbourne Water Brooklyn office, a project manager and an HR person interviewed me. They started by asking "What do you know about the company?" and their question was very specific to the kind of skills and experiences that they need.

After the interview, I was never contacted for feedback ( on Wood Group website: "Regardless of the outcome, we will provide you with constructive feedback from the interview/assessment process") and they put up the same ads online.
