HR interview, then a UX team interview with 2 junior UX designers and a senior UX designer. The game director was supposed to be in on the interview but he didn't show up. Red flag number 1- HR said they wouldn't cover moving expenses and do not do remote, and relocation would be required for the role- the team told me they had people working in New Zealand so working remotely from Australia wouldn't be a problem. Red flag number 2- my first interview was not with my manager, but with junior team members. Yup, junior team members evaluating you for a director level position. This was supposed to be a casual getting to know you interview, but I was rigorously grilled on my UX expertise. Their inexperience with interviewing was very clear. Red flag number 3- the senior UX designer had some very clear ideas about what he wanted the UX director to do, which was not in line with the job description. He wanted to manage the UX team, while the director would be hands off and work at an executive level. That was not in the job description. While the 2 juniors were professional, the senior UX designer made an inappropriate joke that I found incredibly rude and unprofessional. He would have been very difficult to work with, and it was clear he did not want to work with a woman, setting a really bad example for the junior woman on the team. I rated this interview difficult, because the team had not a clue how to interview someone for a director level role. It was really bad.
