I applied online. I interviewed at Zulily (Seattle, WA)
Interview
Overall I think it was a great experience. It was not heavy in coding questions, more about technical knowledge and system design. It can be a good opportunity to someone not feeling super confident in algorithms.
The experience with the recruiters was a bit sloppy but nothing a grown up professional can't tolerate.
The interviewers were very friendly and I enjoyed talking to them.
I thought I did well, I'm not sure what they didn't like. I solved the coding challenges and answered most of the technical questions about databases, javascript, html, etc. Probably I didn't perform well in system design and they were looking for someone ready to get their hands on it.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
There were 4 technical interviews and lunch with a dev manager who asked soft questions.
2 interviewers asked coding questions. Both were about games involving matrices of numbers. Not hard, just need to figure out how to traverse the matrices and operate with the numbers on it. One them also asked some questions about SQL, basically about joins, group by, having and sort by.
1 interviewer focused entirely system design. There were lot of questions on queue system, caching, load balancers, micro services.
1 interviewer focused in front end. Some questions about HTML, Javascript, ajax, etc. Basically, all knowledge questions. He said it was mostly just to make an assessment but it was ok If I didn't know the answers.
Finally, the lunch interview had lot of questions of the type: tell me about some project you worked that you are proud of.
Recruiter reached out on LinkedIn and phone call. Scheduled first round of technical phone screen. Then 5 rounds of interviews, 2 coding, 2 systems design and one managerial/hr round.
I solved the coding questions but not sure why they rejected me. I was expecting a positive response because I was able to solve technical questions and system design rounds went well. I had to wait for 10 days after the interview and multiple follow up emails to get the feedback on final rounds.
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Zulily (Seattle, WA) in Jan 2019
Interview
Technical phone interview + onsite five rounds
Interview process and response time was quick. I applied through a portal and got a call for a technical interview. The interviewer was friendly, was helping me throughout the interview asked me a lot of why???
Onsite interview was one of my good experience, the team was friendly.
