Students at Boston College (BC) get both academic excellence and the Red Sox. Located six miles from downtown Boston, the university enrolls about 15,000 full- and part-time students (about a third of whom are graduate students) from every US state and 80 countries. It has a student-teacher ratio of 13:1. Chartered in 1863, BC offers degrees in more than 50 fields of study through its nine schools and colleges on four campuses. The university also has about two dozen research centers, including the Institute for Scientific Research, and the Center for International Higher Education. BC is one of the oldest Jesuit Catholic universities in the nation and has the largest Jesuit community in the world.
