Description Fashionistas pay homage to the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). The school offers degrees and classes in a variety of disciplines within the fashion and design industry as well as in business, technology, and communications. About 10,000 students are enrolled. The school also hosts The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology, which houses collections of costumes and textiles, with a focus on 20th-century fashion. Virginia Pope, fashion editor of The New York Times, was one of FIT's founders. FIT began in 1944 and was tuition-free until 1953; it is part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system.
