More than three-quarters of its student body hail from Mississippi. The school offers approximately 150 undergraduate majors, pre-professional programs, and master's, educational specialist, and doctorate degree programs at about a dozen colleges and schools. It confers some 3,500 degrees annually. MSU was created by the Mississippi Legislature in 1878 as The Agricultural and Mechanical College of the State of Mississippi.
