Description Lafayette College has a revolutionary background. The school offers bachelor's degrees in about 45 areas of study in engineering, sciences, and the arts. Some 2,400 students -- all undergraduates-- are enrolled on the campus, located about 70 miles west of New York City and 60 miles north of Philadelphia. All 206 full-time faculty have a PhD or equivalent degree. The college was founded in 1826 by the citizens of Easton, Pennsylvania and named in honor of the Marquis de Lafayette, a French-born hero of the American Revolution and associate of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. The college has an endowment of more than $780 million.
