Description Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) isn't geographically confused. It's named for the town of Indiana, which is located in Western Pennsylvania, east of Pittsburgh. The school serves more than 14,000 students on three campuses (Indiana, Northpointe, and Punxsutawney); it also has a center in Monroeville that offers classes on evenings and Saturdays for professionals pursuing master's or doctoral degrees. All told, the university offers some 140 undergraduate degree programs, about 40 master's programs, and nine doctoral programs. IUP was founded in 1875 as Indiana Normal School and was granted university status in 1965. It is part of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.
