Description Hornet's nests aren't the only things getting stirred up at California State University, Sacramento. Also known as Sacramento State or Sac State, the school's mascot is a hornet. Sacramento State has approximately 28,000 students at its 300-acre campus. Its academic offerings include 60 undergraduate and 40 graduate programs in majors including business, nursing, and criminal justice. Sacramento State was founded as Sacramento State College in 1947 and today is one of about two-dozen schools in the California State University system. Notable alumni include Academy Award-winning actor Tom Hanks, news anchor Lester Holt, and musician Bobby McFerrin.
