Howard Community College (HCC) provides academic programs to students in Maryland's Howard County. More than 7,900 of its students pursue studies leading to immediate employment upon graduation or transfer to four year colleges (many go to the University System of Maryland's University of Maryland, College Park; University of Maryland, Baltimore County; and Towson State University). Another 17,000 students take HCC courses for personal or professional development. Founded by the Board of Education of Howard County, HCC was formally authorized by the Howard County Commissioners and approved by the State of Maryland in 1966.
