Enlightened Equipment began in 2005 when Tim Marshall decided to build his own camping gear that was lighter weight and more functional than anything else available on the market. Numerous experiments and variations later, he developed a highly effective feature set in his most refined product, the Revelation quilt. After his friends caught on demand grew quickly, and in 2011 he first added employees to his basement workshop in Winona, Minnesota. Five years later, the tiny basement workshop was at maximum capacity, so he moved the business into a neighborhood shop a few blocks away from his home and the mighty Mississippi River and quickly outgrew that space. Enlightened Equipment then moved to a large commercial building and is continuing to expand rapidly. Tim continues to create, develop, and improve products while overseeing the daily operations of Enlightened Equipment and its multiple staff, many of whom are lifelong friends.
