The National Multiple Sclerosis Society was founded in 1946 by Sylvia Lawry, a young woman searching for answers after her brother was diagnosed with MS. At a time when almost no research or support existed for the disease, Lawry placed a small newspaper ad seeking anyone who had recovered from MS — and the overwhelming response inspired her to create an organization dedicated to finding a cure. Today, the Society continues to expand its impact, reaching communities across the country and accelerating progress toward a world free of MS.
