Description One of the oldest asset managers in the US, J. & W. Seligman & Co. offers a variety of investment products to investors. Founded in 1864, it manages more than 50 mutual funds with prominent holdings in communications, information, and technology firms, as well as municipal debt. It also oversees more than $16 billion in assets for public funds, corporations, and foundations. Services for individuals include 401(k) plans and IRAs. Seligman also manages the Tri-Continental Corporation, one of the oldest and largest closed-end investment funds traded on the NYSE. Ameriprise Financial bought the firm for some $440 million in 2008. RiverSource, a subsidiary of Ameriprise, is the new manager of the corporation.
