Description Bruce Katz, founder and CEO, is a third generation shoemaker who is following in the tradition of his grandfather who started the original Hubbard Shoe Company in 1930 in Rochester, New Hampshire. Hubbard built a reputation for fine footwear where fit, comfort, and durability were paramount. When domestic manufacturing became unviable in the early 70’s, the family re-invented their business with the creation of Rockport Shoes, which were made in factories all over the world. Samuel Hubbard Shoe is a new family enterprise created in 2012 with the mission of creating the most comfortable walking shoes for work and for weekends.
At Samuel Hubbard, we design shoes where comfort and craftsmanship are never compromised. Being just “good enough” is not good enough for us. If there is a better method, if there are better materials, then that is what we choose. We strive to honor the past and what we have learned as shoemakers since 1930. Bruce Katz’s father Saul often said, “We make friends with our shoes, one pair at a time.”
