Cakewalk wants to make it much, much easier to produce a pleasing -- and musical -- sound on your computer. The company develops and markets music and sound software used for tasks such as producing audio for CDs, film, TV, video games, and the Internet. Its SONAR line is its flagship digital audio workstation; other products include Projects, Rapture, and Music Creator. Customers include audio professionals, musicians, software developers, and home users. Cakewalk was founded in 1987 by CEO Greg Hendershott. Electronic instrument maker Roland, a longtime Cakewalk partner and investor, brought its ownership up to 60% in 2008 when it added 45% to its previous stake.
