Description Without progress, millions of people would be without energy. Progress Energy provides electricity to 3.1 million customers. It serves customers in North and South Carolina, through utility Carolina Power & Light (dba Progress Energy Carolinas), and in Florida, through Florida Power (or Progress Energy Florida). The company generates most of its energy from nuclear and fossil-fueled plants and has a total capacity of more than 22,000 MW. Progress Energy has been seeking to improve its operational efficiency while expanding its alternative energy power sources in order to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. In 2011 the company agreed to be acquired by Duke Energy for $13.7 billion.
