Description The formation of Arc3 Gases in the fall of 2013 could be considered a Tale of Two Companies.
Machine & Welding Company opened its doors in 1925 as a machine shop in Dunn, NC which provided welding and metal working services to farmers, nearby textile mills and other local industry. The business eventually numbered four shops serving rural markets in eastern NC. The selling of industrial gases and welding supplies had a modest beginning as a convenience to their customers. Growth came rapidly, to a point in 1954 when Machine & Welding Supply Company was formed as a separate, sister company. Later, in 1990, the last of the repair shops was closed. MWSC, under the guidance of four generations of the Aldredge family, grew to 24 locations and 240 employees, all providing exceptional service to the industrial markets of North and South Carolina.
Arcet Equipment Company was established in 1946 in Richmond, VA as a full-service welding supply distributor. Through expansion and acquisition, this company grew over the years to 22 locations, with 220 employees, to also provide excellent service to the industrial markets of Virginia. For three generations, the families of Dillard, Ellen, and Tepper have been instrumental in the management of Arcet.
On October 1, 2013, these two companies joined forces to become Arc3 Gases, overnight becoming one of the largest independent welding supply distributors in the United States. Why merge? The simple answer – we are stronger as one than we were as two. With a shared belief in the value that the independent distributor brings to its customers and the marketplace, together we are well positioned to forge ahead and secure this special approach to doing business for years to come.
The name? "Arc” obviously identifies with the welding industry, the "3” relates to loyal employees, valued customers, and family traditions, while "Gases” is in reference to our growing capabilities in this aspect of the industry, such as our growing Specialty Gas offerings and our Beverage Carbonation Division, with a geographical footprint from Delaware to Florida.
Our vision moving forward is to build upon the legacies established by Machine & Welding and Arcet and to ensure that our like cultures of dependable service, technical expertise, and "after sale” service are maintained and even improved, while at the same time providing our employees with a positive working environment and ample opportunities to grow.
