Health Current grew out of collaborative community effort to develop a statewide health information technology (health IT) strategic plan. Throughout our history, Health Current has worked with community healthcare stakeholders to advance the adoption and use of health IT and health information exchange (HIE).
Health Current has advanced numerous successful programs and initiatives and has also led successful collaborative community efforts to pass legislation to enable HIE and other enhancements such as the electronic prescribing of controlled substances. From 2010 – 2015, Health Current operated a federally-funded Regional Extension Center that assisted more than 3,000 Arizona providers with the adoption of use of electronic health records (EHRs). These efforts helped to drive the adoption of EHRs statewide to more than 85%. This work led to several other federally funded health IT projects and programs that advanced HIE, e-prescribing and consumer health IT education.
In 2015, Health Current launched a new technology platform that began growth of more than 800 percent over the next two years. This growth was spurred by the elimination of HIE fees for community providers in October 2015 and was accelerated in 2016 with a strategy and plan to integrate physical and behavioral health providers and information in one statewide HIE.
Today Health Current includes a broad and diverse range of participating organizations, from first responders and hospitals to facilities providing long-term care, home care and hospice.
As Health Current has advanced and grown, the core goal has remained the same: help providers use information technology to improve people’s lives.
