Description Opened on August 1, 2005, The Lövaas Center was formed in Las Vegas with employees previously employed by the UCLA Clinic for the Behavioral Treatment of Children who worked under the direction of Dr. Ivar Lövaas. While working at UCLA, Erik Lövaas conducted the first Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) based autism consultation on August 16, 1996 in Las Vegas. The same year, the original group of parents being served by the UCLA clinic brought a class action law suit against Clark County School District (CCSD) claiming they failed to provide an appropriate education, a violation of Free and Appropriate Education (FAPE). CCSD lost this case and contracted with the UCLA clinic to provide home based ABA services at no cost to the parents. When Dr. Lövaas retired from UCLA, Erik Lövaas opened The Lövaas Center in Las Vegas to continue serving the children being served by UCLA. CCSD agreed to transfer the contract, and The Lövaas Center was established. It is worth noting this was before insurances were mandated to fund autism programs. Staff from The Lövaas Center worked with legislation in helping mandate insurance and Medicaid to cover ABA services. Today, staff from The Lövaas Center are celebrating 28 years of service in Las Vegas. As well, The Lövaas Center Madrid, and Fundación Erik Lövaas para El Autismo are operating throughout Spain.
