Description Sarnoff is less well known than the products it develops. The company provides contract research for government and corporate clients in the fields of electronics, biomedicine, and information technology. Sarnoff licenses the products it develops, which have included color television, the liquid crystal display, and disposable hearing aids. Current areas of research include optoelectronics, biotechnology, digital video, semiconductor technology, and wireless communications. Sarnoff also commercializes its technologies by starting and spinning off new companies. Founded in 1942 as RCA Laboratories, Sarnoff became a subsidiary of research institute SRI International in 1987.
