Nabi Biopharmaceuticals nabs human antibodies to make pharmaceutical therapies. The biotechnology company develops vaccine products for conditions in a number of areas, including infectious diseases and nicotine addiction. Its primary candidate, the NicVAX vaccine for nicotine addition, works by stimulating antibodies (immune-system proteins) that reduce cravings. NicVAX is being developed in partnership with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), which has an option to license worldwide marketing rights to the vaccine. The company had also been developing a vaccine designed to fight hospital-acquired infections, PentaStaph, but it has divested that vaccine candidate.
