Our History, Growth, and Expertise: Founded in 1966 in Maine, MCD brought higher quality health care to its rural population and now operates across the U.S.
In 1977, MCD expanded internationally, with the belief that MCD’s successful approach to health systems development in the rural U.S. could be adapted to meet the needs of low- or middle-resource nations. A global nonprofit organization, MCD uses practical, evidence based, and high impact approaches to strengthen health systems in numerous countries. Our teams have worked to improve the health of vulnerable populations in more than 50 countries through integrated, sustainable, and locally driven interventions.
By collaborating with local communities, donors, national governments, the private sector, health agencies, and other local stakeholders, MCD assists in improving the health and well-being of people around the world in several areas of public and global health, including: water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH); malaria control; reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health; HIV/AIDS; workforce development; health system strengthening and capacity building; telehealth and technology; e-learning programs; communicable and non-communicable diseases; and much more.
