Protalex is developing a technique called bioregulation to make drugs that control a disease instead of treating the symptoms after the disease has wreaked havoc on the body. The company's development programs target autoimmune diseases and inflammatory ailments. Lead drug candidate PRTX-100 is in early stage trials to target rheumatoid arthritis and idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), an autoimmune disorder characterized by excessive bleeding. Other potential disease targets include skin diseases psoriasis and pemphigus, inflammatory bowel condition Crohn's disease, and autoimmune disorders multiple sclerosis and lupus.
