Konicklijke Ten Cate has come a long way since the Ten Cate family entered the textile business during the Dutch Golden Age of the 17th century. These days, the company and its subsidiaries operate on four continents, creating textiles and synthetic materials used in a wide range of applications. On the industrial side, Ten Cate makes everything from aerospace composites to antiballistic fabrics and artificial turf. It also manufactures textiles used in civil engineering, agriculture, and water management, as well as more prosaic fabrics such as tent cloth. The firm touts itself as the oldest Dutch industrial firm with the prestigious "Konicklijke" ("Royal") appellation, which it garnered in the 19th century.
