Description Check out what GlycoFi is brewing. The biotech firm has developed a protein manufacturing process using yeast-based glycolysation, the attachment of carbohydrate structures to the protein. The resulting proteins can be used in drug development. The firm aims to develop its own pipeline of therapeutic proteins and team with other drugmakers to develop products. For example, GlycoFi has teamed with Johnson & Johnson subsidiary Centocor to investigate how the two firms can collaboratively make therapeutic proteins for Centocor. It inked two deals in late 2005, allowing Eli Lilly and Merck to use its protein technology for multi-year research collaborations. A few months later, it agreed to be acquired by Merck.
