Sok and other banners have given Migros a firm foothold in the Turkish retail market. As Turkey's largest food retailer, Migros operates about 870 Migros stores, including more than 350 Sok stores. It also runs Ramstores in Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Macedonia, and Russia. Migros' stores sell food and many other consumer items, such as appliances, clothing, glassware, and printed materials. The company also operates wholesale outlets and markets items online. Migros was founded in 1954 by the city of Istanbul and the Federation of Migros Cooperatives as a venture of 45 sales trucks that provided home deliveries. Koç Holding acquired a majority interest in Migros in 1975 and BC Partners bought it in 2008.
